Anti-wrinkle injections
This aftercare is essential to reduce the risk of complications, improve your comfort and healing, and help you get the best possible results.
Before your appointment
- Avoid dental procedures, even routine ones, for 2 weeks before and after.
- Have a light meal and make sure you're hydrated before arriving — this reduces the chance of feeling lightheaded.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol for 24 hours before to reduce bleeding and bruising.
- You may take Arnica tablets to help reduce bruising.
What to expect
After treatment the skin may be red, swollen and sometimes bruised at the injection sites. This usually settles naturally within a few days, though more extensive bruising can take up to 2 weeks. You may get a headache afterwards lasting 1–2 days, usually controlled by simple over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol.
Aftercare
- Avoid makeup on the treated area for 24 hours — this helps reduce the risk of infection.
- Avoid extremes of temperature for 24 hours — have a tepid shower or bath rather than a hot one.
- Avoid exercise or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours.
- No swimming, saunas or steam rooms for at least 24 hours.
- No excessive alcohol on the day of treatment.
- Don't lie flat or face down for at least 4 hours — stay upright to help reduce product migration.
- Avoid touching or rubbing the treated area for at least 24 hours, as it may affect your results.
- Avoid any further cosmetic procedures on the area for 2 weeks, including permanent makeup and skin treatments.
Seek help if…
- Signs of infection — hot, red, shiny skin, possible pus, a fever or feeling generally unwell — need medical attention. Contact me as soon as possible.
- Severe allergy symptoms — rash, facial swelling or breathing difficulty — need emergency medical attention.
- Contact me as soon as possible about any other unwanted side effects.
Your results
Allow 2 weeks before judging your results. If after 2 weeks there's any persistent unevenness, or the product hasn't fully taken, contact me for a review. Please ask if anything here is unclear.
